Scholaric Released with Subject Creation

This morning we released, by your request

Subject creation - just type a new subject name into the add course dialog and it will show up.

Course deletion - instead of just hiding the course, you can delete it - it deletes any lessons you have for that course/student in the current period, so be careful!

Note that if there are other students using that course, or other lessons, it can't really be deleted.  Delete it from all students and the course will be deleted.

I am just learning how to use Scholaric, but am having trouble deleting courses. I am able to delete the course for the week i am planning, but the following week the course and lessons are back. So frustrating! I think this will be a wonderful tool but the inability to truly delete courses is driving me crazy. Please help!
Hi Debbie, thanks for bringing your problem to my attention.

I just tested what you said, and was not able to reproduce it. Can you confirm you deleted the course using the course menu? You should have seen a popup to confirm its deletion, plus the number of lessons which were about to be deleted.

I'd also like to look at your records, can you email me your user name, the student name and course name which you deleted.

I'm sure we can straighten this out, sorry for the trouble.

My username is greenvneck. Maybe I am just not seeing the right options? Even with my difficulties I am paying for the service; I need something to help keep me on track!
I did see a choice to delete the course and lessons, but it didn't work. I tried to get around it by deleting the student and starting fresh, but I made a mistake in the lesson plans and couldn't change it without deleting the kid again. At that point I had put 20 hrs into figuring out how the site works, but I have 4 kids!
I think I know why this is a problem.

Deleting a course will only delete the lessons in the current grading period. This is for your protection.

In your case, next week (July 1) has lessons which are not in your curent grading period, I assume.

The way to delete them is to delete the course in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 periods:

1) Delete the desired courses from the 2010-11 grading period.
2) Go to periods on your dashboard.
3) Select add new, and rename the period so your ready for next year.
4) On the new period select the "set current period" option.
5) Then delete the courses from the July 1 planning grid for that same student.

This should fix the problem.

I actually don't have any grading periods laid out. We live in Texas, so I don't have to keep any sort of records.
